Forged Brass Process

Forged Brass is Best.

All Bravura locks are forged, because forging makes stronger, more durable brass with a better finish. Cast brass is melted, then poured into a mould. It is softer, less-dense and can have many imperfections. Cast brass will also not wear as well as forged brass.

  1. We start with a solid ingot of brass, then heat it red-hot.
  2. The red-hot ingot is then put into a polished, metal die and forged (squeezed) into the desired shape using 600 - 1000 tons of pressure.
  3. After the excess metal (flashing) is cut-off, the forging is inspected, then machined, then inspected again.
  4. Once all the hand-polishing and finishing is complete, Bravura locks are ready for years of functional beauty on your home.
